Start moisturizing the area to be tattooed daily
Drink extra water every day — hydrated skin takes ink better
Finalize your design and send reference images to your artist
Confirm your appointment time and location
Avoid tanning or sunburning the area
Do not start any new medications without telling your artist
Night Before
The Night Before
Get a full night of sleep — fatigue makes pain worse
Moisturize the area one last time
Lay out your outfit — wear comfortable loose clothing that exposes the area easily
Prepare snacks and drinks to bring with you
Do NOT drink alcohol — it thins your blood and affects healing
Avoid aspirin or ibuprofen — these thin blood and increase bleeding
Day Of
Morning of Your Appointment
Eat a full nutritious meal 1–2 hours before — never get tattooed on an empty stomach
Drink plenty of water throughout the morning
Shower and wash the area to be tattooed — clean skin is essential
Shave the area if needed (or let your artist do it)
Do not apply lotion or deodorant to the tattoo area before arrival
Do not come under the influence of any substances
Bring a light snack and water bottle for longer sessions
At the Shop
When You Arrive
Arrive 10–15 minutes early
Complete your digital waiver at nbtstucson.com/waiver.html ahead of time
Bring valid government-issued photo ID — required for all clients
Review the stencil placement carefully before the artist starts
Speak up about any concerns — this is your body and your art
Take breaks if you need them — there is no shame in it
Breathe slowly and steadily to manage discomfort
